How Can We Show Employees That Their Feedback Is Heard and Valued?

by Paul Devlin

If you’re like most HR professionals, you know how important it is to provide employees with an opportunity to share their feedback. After all, a workforce that feels valued and heard is often a more productive and engaged workforce. But sometimes, it can be hard to know how to show your employees that their comments and suggestions are being taken seriously. In this blog post, we’ll explore some of the best ways to make your employees feel heard, and set you on the path to creating a more positive workplace culture.

1. Respond to feedback in a timely manner

When employees take the time to share their thoughts or ideas, it’s important to respond in a timely manner. Whether you’re sharing your thoughts in person, via email or through a feedback platform, be sure to acknowledge their efforts and let them know that their comments have been heard. If employees aren’t getting a timely response, they may begin to feel discouraged or skeptical about whether their feedback is really being taken into account.

2. Implement changes based on feedback

One of the best ways to show your employees that their feedback is being valued is to use their comments to drive change. If you notice trends or themes in the feedback you receive, try to create actionable items from them. Make sure employees know that their comments have led to real changes that benefit the workplace as a whole.

3. Conduct surveys

Rather than simply waiting for employees to provide feedback, it might be helpful to proactively solicit input through surveys. Surveys can be designed to ferret out specific issues or concerns, and they allow you to collect feedback from all members of your workforce. When you conduct surveys, be sure to share the results and follow up with action items to address the areas of concern.

4. Give employees a voice

In order to make your employees feel truly heard, you need to give them a platform to speak from. This might mean creating a suggestion forum or an employee advisory board. The important thing is to make sure you’re creating a safe space where employees feel empowered to speak their minds without fear of retaliation. When employees have a say in workplace decisions, it can help foster a stronger sense of ownership over their jobs, and create a shared sense of purpose.

5. Recognize and Reward

Finally, make sure to recognize and reward employees who provide valuable feedback. This can be as simple as a thank you note or as dramatic as a company-wide announcement. By highlighting the value of feedback and showing how it drives progress, you’ll help create a company culture where employees feel that their contributions are truly valued.
